Joe watches too many movies. He grew up in central Washington, earned his B.A. in Education and Fine Art, an M.A. in Theology and currently works in the printing industry. During school, he fit in a few film classes. He is interested in writing, theology and hopes to one day compose the ultimate Joe Versus the Volcano commentary track.

Melissa has a B.A. in History and an M.A. in English with an emphasis on Film Studies. She has taken classes on everything from silent to romance to post-colonial films and much in between. Her research and interests lie mainly in feminist film theory, women in film, Hitchcock and the studio era. At the end of the day, however, she just loves films; from Notorious to Die Hard!

We've waited. We really have. But Wes Anderson hasn't given us enough material for a regular show - hence, this special edition. On this episode of WTD, we look at the four features from that unlikely Texan. Join us as we talk about estranged fathers and sons, symmetry and red speedos. Beginning with Anderson's short Bottle Rocket up to The Life Aquatic...  we will do our best to give a quick overview of his all-to-brief career.
Plus, we dedicate ten good minutes at the end of the show to listener response about The Game. Were we wrong in saying it undermined the film? (Of course we don't think so).

    I agree with Jon, if there is a lot to talk about a certain director who may have made only a few, but very discussion-worthy films, then why not? I would love to hear a show about Sam Mendes!

    The 5 Film limit: well, that seemed like a good way to give more thought to a director's body of work. A few directors - like Wes Anderson - tip their hand early and seem to create a series of themes and stylistic choices right from the beginning. Perhaps even Scorsese did this with Mean Streets (but would it be fair to talk about Box Car Bertha as a defining statement?).

    Still, Melissa and I discussed the Special Edition format used for Anderson and Gibson. There are certainly a few directors that merit looks from their limited body - or limited availability - of work (i.e. Iñarritu, Frank Darabont, Meirelles, Nolan, Robert Hamer - one of my favorites - or, perhaps, Sam Mendes... perhaps;))

    We will consider this more closely in upcoming episodes, especially since after directors with very large bodies, it's a nice break to just focus on a small number of specific films.
    Oh, John B. There's a good little NPR piece on the AmEx commercial, even noting the Truffaut connection (including the music).

    I own two other pairs of MBT SHOES but the MBT Fora is by far the most comfortable and best looking. I usually take a size 7 in MBT Fumba but needed a size 6.5 in this style.
