Joe watches too many movies. He grew up in central Washington, earned his B.A. in Education and Fine Art, an M.A. in Theology and currently works in the printing industry. During school, he fit in a few film classes. He is interested in writing, theology and hopes to one day compose the ultimate Joe Versus the Volcano commentary track.

Melissa has a B.A. in History and an M.A. in English with an emphasis on Film Studies. She has taken classes on everything from silent to romance to post-colonial films and much in between. Her research and interests lie mainly in feminist film theory, women in film, Hitchcock and the studio era. At the end of the day, however, she just loves films; from Notorious to Die Hard!

    Hi, i'm a listener from Mexico who just discovered your podcast, i have to say that i've become a fan, one of the things i love about it is the genuine love and respect to cinema's history that you portray in each episode.

    I also appreciate the non snob approach to directors and their films, i mean, i love Kurosawa, Passolini and many other "Artsy" directors but the fact that you are willing to talk about M. night Shyamalan, Zemeckis and Brian Singer is a perfect example of a diverse and objective view of the values of a good movie experience.

    Anyway i just wanted to let you guys know that you have a frequent listener in Mexico (specifically in the city of Guadalajara) who loves your show and i really wish you the best.

    Hi. I'm working my way through your back catalog and just listened to the Bergman episode. I would like to challenge you to give "The Magic Flute" a second chance. I was really impressed with the film and the way that it combined the environment of the theater with the editing of cinema. There are scenes where the film cuts to the girl in the audience, her face changes suddenly, and then it cuts back to the stage with a completely different set. This couldn't happen in a real theater (set changes take time), but the subtle magic of this film makes this transition completely believable.
